In the 1986 film 'The Fly', what is the name of the teleportation device?

The story behind the answer

In the 1986 film The Fly, the teleportation device is called a Telepod.

Scientist Seth Brundle invents two matching Telepods that can transport matter instantaneously between them. Early tests work only with inanimate objects; when Brundle tries sending a baboon, the machine mishandles living tissue and turns the animal inside out.

Brundle later reprograms the system to understand biology and successfully transports another baboon. He then enters a Telepod himself, unaware that a housefly has joined him. The computer interprets the two organisms as one and fuses them at the molecular-genetic level, beginning his transformation into Brundlefly.

The name is sometimes confused with generic science-fiction terms such as transporter or teleportation chamber, but Telepod is the film’s specific term. The device also appears in The Fly II, the 1989 sequel, where scientists attempt to restore the technology.
