In the 1974 James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun, which car performs the corkscrew jump?

The story behind the answer

In the 1974 James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun, an AMC Hornet performs the famous corkscrew jump.

Bond takes the red-and-white Hornet from a Bangkok showroom during a pursuit. The car launches from a ramp, rotates in midair and lands on the other side of a broken bridge. The stunt was designed and calculated as a controlled vehicle rotation, making it one of the most recognizable car stunts in Bond history.

The sequence is sometimes called the “Astro Spiral” or “corkscrew” jump. A sound effect of a slide whistle was added in the finished film, and many viewers remember that comic audio choice as much as the stunt itself.

The AMC Hornet was an American compact car, not a specialist sports car. Its ordinary showroom appearance made the spectacular jump especially memorable.
