In You Only Live Twice, James Bond uses a Toyota 2000GT converted into a convertible.
Toyota built the car specifically for the 1967 film, whose Japanese setting gave the model unusual international exposure. The production needed an open-top car because Sean Connery was too tall to fit comfortably inside the standard coupe with the camera equipment.
Toyota produced two functioning convertibles for filming rather than cutting up ordinary production cars. The 2000GT was already a landmark Japanese sports car, developed with design input associated with Toyota and Yamaha.
A common mix-up is calling it a Toyota Supra, but the Supra name did not appear until the late 1970s. The 2000GT is also distinct from the Toyota Crown, the larger sedan seen elsewhere in the film.
