In the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, which car does Tilly Masterson drive?

The story behind the answer

In Goldfinger, Tilly Masterson drives a Ford Mustang convertible.

Tilly is pursuing Auric Goldfinger after he murders her sister, Jill. Her Mustang appears during the early Swiss mountain-road scenes, where Bond first encounters her and learns that she is also targeting Goldfinger. The car is a recognizable example of the new American pony-car style of the 1960s.

Ford introduced the Mustang in April 1964, making it a very recent model when Goldfinger reached cinemas later that year. The movie therefore captures the car near the beginning of its cultural rise. Some references loosely call Tilly’s vehicle a Mustang sports car without specifying the body style, but the screen car is a convertible.

The film also features Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 and Goldfinger’s Rolls-Royce Phantom III, which are separate vehicles with very different roles in the story.
