In the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, which Aston Martin introduced Bond’s famous ejector-seat car gadget?

The story behind the answer

The Aston Martin DB5 introduced Bond’s famous ejector-seat car gadget in Goldfinger.

The silver DB5 supplied to Bond is fitted with fictional espionage equipment by Q, including an ejector seat, machine guns, revolving number plates, an oil-slick dispenser and a bullet-resistant shield. The ejector seat is activated when Bond tells an unwanted passenger to “ejector seat,” making it one of the series’ most recognizable comic set pieces.

The DB5 was not created solely for the film. Aston Martin introduced the production grand tourer in 1963, and its elegant shape helped make it an especially memorable Bond vehicle. Goldfinger’s success turned the car into a cultural icon and established the close association between Aston Martin and James Bond.

A common mix-up is calling the car a DB4 or DBS. The DB5 is the model used for the best-known Goldfinger gadget sequence; later Bond films used several other Aston Martin models.
