In Terminator 2: Judgment Day, who plays the T-1000?

The story behind the answer

Robert Patrick plays the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The character is a liquid-metal Terminator sent to eliminate the young John Connor.

Unlike the mechanical T-800 from the first film, the T-1000 is made from a fictional mimetic polyalloy. It can imitate people and objects, reshape its body, and pass through some barriers. Patrick’s lean appearance and controlled movement helped distinguish the T-1000 from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s larger, visibly mechanical character.

The film uses the T-1000’s abilities for several memorable effects, including its transformation into a police officer and its recovery after severe physical damage. These effects were a major technical feature of the movie and helped make the sequel a landmark in computer-generated imagery.

Patrick later returned to the franchise in Terminator Genisys, playing a different police-related version of the T-1000. That appearance is separate from his original performance in Terminator 2.
