In "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith," Palpatine had a lightsaber duel with Yoda. The confrontation begins after Yoda learns that Supreme Chancellor Palpatine is actually Darth Sidious, the Sith Lord behind the Clone Wars and the destruction of the Jedi Order.
Yoda reaches Palpatine in the Galactic Senate, where the Sith Lord attacks with a red lightsaber and Force lightning. Their battle moves from Palpatine’s office into the Senate chamber, with both combatants using the floating senatorial platforms as weapons and jumping between them. It is one of the film’s most visually distinctive duels.
The fight ends without a decisive victor. Yoda is unable to defeat Sidious and falls away from the Senate platforms, forcing him to flee Coruscant with Senator Bail Organa. The defeat helps establish why Yoda later goes into exile on Dagobah. A common mix-up is confusing this duel with Yoda’s earlier lightsaber fight against Count Dooku in "Attack of the Clones."
