In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, in what year was the film released?

The story behind the answer

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was released in 1982.

The film premiered in the United States on June 4, 1982, after Paramount Pictures brought back William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and the other principal cast members from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Nicholas Meyer directed the sequel and co-wrote its screenplay with Harve Bennett and Jack B. Sowards.

The story follows Admiral James T. Kirk as he confronts Khan Noonien Singh, a genetically enhanced human from the original television episode “Space Seed.” The sequel became a major commercial and critical success and helped establish the more character-focused style associated with later Star Trek films.

The year is sometimes confused with 1981, when production and script development were underway, or with 1983, when several international releases occurred. Its U.S. release year is firmly 1982.
