In Star Trek: First Contact, the crew travels back to the year 2063.
The Borg pursue the USS Enterprise-E through a temporal vortex and attempt to change human history. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his crew follow them to Earth, arriving shortly before humanity's first warp flight and the event that will attract the attention of an advanced extraterrestrial civilization.
The date is significant because Zefram Cochrane is scheduled to launch the Phoenix, an experimental warp-capable spacecraft, from Montana. The flight is observed by Vulcans, who make first contact with humans after detecting the ship's warp signature.
The crew must repair the Phoenix and protect the historical timeline while fighting the Borg aboard the Enterprise. The film therefore connects a famous event from Star Trek history with a direct confrontation over time travel. First Contact was released in 1996 and was directed by Jonathan Frakes.
