In Season 2 of Animals., the pop-culture icon RuPaul portrays the unscrupulous Dr. Labcoat. RuPaul appears as the live-action face and voice of the season’s human storyline antagonist, a scientist whose plans threaten New York’s population.
Animals. is an adult animated comedy created by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano. The series usually follows the secret lives and conversations of New York City animals, including rats, pigeons, cats, and other creatures. Its second season expands the story beyond small animal escapades into a broader human-centered plot involving a mysterious virus and Dr. Labcoat’s dangerous ambitions.
RuPaul is best known as a drag performer, recording artist, actor, television host, and creator of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The Dr. Labcoat role is therefore an unexpected casting detail, especially because the character appears within a show whose principal characters are animated animals.
The punctuation in the title is distinctive: the series is officially styled Animals. with a period. Season 2 aired in 2017 and continued the show’s mixture of absurd comedy, social satire, and surreal storytelling.
