In Revenge of the Sith, Mace Windu battled Palpatine and was injured by Anakin Skywalker. Windu led the Jedi confrontation with Chancellor Palpatine after discovering that Palpatine was secretly Darth Sidious, the Sith Lord controlling the Republic.
Windu and three other Jedi Masters initially confronted Palpatine in his office. Palpatine quickly killed the other Jedi, but Windu continued the duel and ultimately disarmed him. The scene then becomes a turning point for Anakin, who arrives while Palpatine is vulnerable and pleads for his life.
Anakin chooses Palpatine over Windu because he believes the Sith Lord may know how to prevent Padmé Amidala’s death. Anakin cuts off Windu’s hand, and Palpatine then blasts the Jedi Master through a window with Force lightning. The event marks Anakin’s decisive turn toward the dark side.
The wording can cause confusion because several Jedi fought Palpatine at the start of the sequence. However, Mace Windu is the sole canonical answer for the Jedi who survives long enough to duel Palpatine and is then injured by Anakin.
