The male members of a quinceañera’s court are often called chambelanes.
Chambelanes are male attendants who may accompany the celebrant in the formal entrance, photographs, waltz, and choreographed dances. They are commonly paired with damas, the female members of the court. English-language celebrations may also call them escorts or honor attendants.
The number of chambelanes is not fixed. A family may select one escort, several friends, or a larger court. Their clothing can range from formal suits and tuxedos to coordinated regional or contemporary outfits. The court’s appearance and choreography are choices rather than universal requirements.
Chambelanes should not be confused with padrinos. Padrinos are sponsors who may help provide particular elements of the celebration, while chambelanes participate as attendants. Regional vocabulary differs, so some families use “escort” or “court member” instead of the Spanish term.
