In Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, who plays Major Marquis Warren?

The story behind the answer

Samuel L. Jackson plays Major Marquis Warren in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.

Warren is a former Union cavalry officer who becomes a bounty hunter after the American Civil War. He travels through a Wyoming blizzard and takes shelter at a stagecoach stop with several other dangerous strangers. His letters from President Abraham Lincoln become an important part of the film’s deception and power struggles.

The Hateful Eight was released in 2015 and was shot in the 70 mm Ultra Panavision format for its road-show presentation. Jackson’s Warren is not the same character as Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction, although both roles are among his best-known Tarantino performances. Kurt Russell plays John “The Hangman” Ruth, the bounty hunter escorting Daisy Domergue. The film’s mystery depends on shifting identities, so the characters’ occupations and loyalties are deliberately questioned throughout.
