In Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, the stagecoach is headed to the town of Red Rock.
John Ruth is transporting the fugitive Daisy Domergue to Red Rock, where she is expected to face justice. A blizzard forces the stagecoach to stop at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a remote lodge that becomes the film’s principal setting.
The journey’s destination gives the characters a shared immediate goal, even though suspicion and violence dominate their time at the lodge. Red Rock is also associated with the film’s western setting and its broader themes of law, revenge, and unreliable identity.
Red Rock should not be confused with Minnie’s Haberdashery. The latter is the shelter where most of the story unfolds, while Red Rock is the town John Ruth is trying to reach.
