In Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 1, who composed the film’s original music score?

The story behind the answer

RZA composed the original music score for Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 1.

RZA, the stage name of Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, is best known as a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan and a producer associated with hip-hop and film music. His work on Kill Bill: Volume 1 helped connect the film’s martial-arts imagery with sharp, modern rhythmic textures.

The soundtrack also includes many pre-existing songs and pieces selected by Tarantino. That mixture can cause confusion: RZA is credited with original score material, while tracks by artists such as Nancy Sinatra, Isaac Hayes, and Santa Esmeralda were separately licensed or selected for the soundtrack.

Kill Bill: Volume 1 was released in 2003 and was followed by Kill Bill: Volume 2 in 2004. The two films were produced as a connected revenge story centered on Uma Thurman’s character, the Bride.
