In Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, what airport job does Jackie Brown hold?

The story behind the answer

In Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, the title character works as a flight attendant.

Jackie Brown is employed by the fictional airline Cabo Air. The job allows her to travel between Mexico and the United States, which becomes important when she helps smuggle money for arms dealer Ordell Robbie. At the beginning of the film, customs agents catch Jackie carrying cash and cocaine for Ordell.

The story is adapted from Elmore Leonard’s 1992 novel Rum Punch, in which the protagonist is also a flight attendant. Tarantino changed the character’s name from Jackie Burke to Jackie Brown and wrote the part specifically for Pam Grier, making the film a major showcase for the actor’s earlier blaxploitation-film legacy.

The job is sometimes confused with an airport-ground position because Jackie is shown passing through terminals and customs. However, the film identifies her as cabin crew, not a ticket seller, baggage worker, or pilot.
