Diane Kruger plays Bridget von Hammersmark in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
Bridget is a German film star and Allied spy who helps coordinate the undercover operation at the film premiere in Paris. Her celebrity status gives her access to Nazi officers, but her secret work places her in extreme danger when the mission begins to unravel.
The role is distinct from Shosanna Dreyfus, played by Mélanie Laurent. Shosanna owns the cinema hosting the premiere and pursues her own plan against the Nazi leadership. Julie Dreyfus appears as Francesca Mondino, while Eli Roth plays Sergeant Donny Donowitz, one of the Basterds.
Kruger’s performance earned the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast alongside the film’s ensemble. Inglourious Basterds premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival before its wider release.
