In Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, which actor plays Dr. King Schultz?

Christoph Waltz plays Dr. King Schultz in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.

Schultz is a German dentist turned bounty hunter who purchases Django’s freedom and recruits him as a partner. He teaches Django bounty-hunting skills and helps him search for Broomhilda, Django’s enslaved wife. Waltz’s performance gives Schultz a courteous, theatrical manner alongside his professional skill with firearms.

Django Unchained was released in 2012 and stars Jamie Foxx as Django. Leonardo DiCaprio plays plantation owner Calvin J. Candie, while Samuel L. Jackson plays Candie’s loyal house servant Stephen. The film combines a revenge narrative with conventions drawn from the western and the Italian “Django” films.

Waltz won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the role, repeating his win for Inglourious Basterds. That earlier Tarantino collaboration is why Waltz’s two supporting performances are frequently discussed together.
