Zoë Bell plays stuntwoman Zoë Bell in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof.
Bell appears as a fictionalized version of herself, extending the film’s fascination with stunt work and physical performance. She was already known as a stunt performer, including work as Uma Thurman’s stunt double in the Kill Bill films, before taking the lead role in Death Proof.
The film follows two groups of women who encounter stuntman Mike, played by Kurt Russell, whose “death-proof” car is designed to protect its driver in crashes. Bell’s most famous sequence involves the women riding on the hood of a moving Dodge Challenger while another car follows them.
This role is sometimes confused with Bell’s stunt-double work for Thurman. In Death Proof, Bell is not merely performing behind another actor; she is credited as herself and is one of the central characters. The film was released in 2007 as part of the Grindhouse double feature.
