In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, what is the name of the Hoenn region professor?

The Hoenn region professor in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire is Professor Birch.

Professor Birch is Hoenn's regional Pokémon professor and a researcher who studies Pokémon in their natural habitats. He lives and works in Littleroot Town, where the player's journey begins. Early in the games, the player rescues him from a wild Poochyena and receives a choice of Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip.

Birch's role differs slightly from that of earlier professors. Rather than focusing mainly on cataloguing Pokémon, he is frequently shown conducting field research. His child, May or Brendan depending on the player's choice, becomes the player's rival and is also involved in Pokémon research.

The other listed names belong to different regions or generations. Professor Elm is associated with Johto, Professor Rowan with Sinnoh, and Professor Sycamore with Kalos. Professor Birch also appears in the Hoenn remakes Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, which were released for Nintendo 3DS in 2014.
