Pokémon Pokopia portrays the Kanto region in a post-apocalyptic state.
The game's story begins in a world abandoned by humans and left difficult for Pokémon to inhabit. Rather than presenting Kanto as the familiar region from Pokémon Red and Blue, Pokopia shows a damaged landscape that the player must gradually restore by creating habitats and helping Pokémon return.
This setting connects Pokopia to a recognizable part of Pokémon history while giving it a very different mood. The plot explores what happened after humans disappeared, with environmental deterioration and abandoned traces of civilization forming a central mystery. Professor Tangrowth studies the world and helps Ditto investigate the lost human presence.
Kanto should not be confused with the game's individual biomes or local areas. Those are parts of the wider setting; Kanto is the named Pokémon region in which the post-apocalyptic story takes place.
