Pixar’s Coco was released in the United States in 2017.
The film received its U.S. theatrical release on November 22, 2017. It was directed by Lee Unkrich and co-directed by Adrian Molina, with a story centered on Mexican family traditions, music and remembrance.
Coco had an earlier theatrical release in Mexico on October 20, 2017. That timing placed the film close to Día de los Muertos, the holiday that provides its cultural and narrative setting.
The year 2017 is also part of the film’s commonly used title reference, Coco (2017), which distinguishes it from other works with the same name. Its release year should not be confused with the 2018 ceremony at which it won major Academy Awards.
