In Pixar's Cars, who provided the voice of Lightning McQueen?

The story behind the answer

Owen Wilson provided the voice of Lightning McQueen in Pixar's Cars.

Lightning McQueen is the film's ambitious rookie race car, whose hurried journey across the United States leads him to Radiator Springs. Wilson's performance gives the character a recognizable mixture of confidence, impatience, humor, and vulnerability. The role is one of Wilson's best-known animated-film performances.

The movie's other major voices include Paul Newman as Doc Hudson, Bonnie Hunt as Sally Carrera, and Larry the Cable Guy as Mater. These characters form the central group Lightning meets after damaging the town's road. Wilson also returned as Lightning for Cars 2 and Cars 3, making the character one of Pixar's recurring leads.

A common mix-up is confusing the actor who voices Lightning with the actor who voices Doc Hudson. Newman played Doc, while Wilson played the red race car at the center of all three feature films.
