Pixar's first feature-film sequel set in the Cars universe was Cars 2.
Released in 2011, Cars 2 continues the stories of Lightning McQueen and Mater after the original Cars. It expands the setting from Radiator Springs to an international racing circuit called the World Grand Prix.
The film was Pixar's first sequel after Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 within the studio's feature-film history. It was also the first Pixar feature to use Disney Digital 3-D presentation. John Lasseter returned to direct, with Brad Lewis as co-director.
The franchise later continued with Cars 3 in 2017. Mater also appeared in the short-form series Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales, but those shorts are not feature-film sequels.
