London is the setting for the final World Grand Prix race in Pixar's Cars 2.
The final race takes place around recognizable London landmarks, including Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Westminster. This gives the movie its concluding international racing backdrop and brings Lightning McQueen, Mater, and the spy storyline together in the same city.
The World Grand Prix begins in Tokyo and then moves to Porto Corsa, Italy, before reaching London. The three locations are fictionalized versions of real-world places and are designed to give each race a distinct visual identity. London is especially important because the competition and the conspiracy reach their climax there.
London should not be confused with the film's opening location, Radiator Springs, or the first World Grand Prix stop, Tokyo. Cars 2 uses the race itinerary to move its characters across several countries while combining sports-racing scenes with an international spy adventure.
