Doc Hudson is the veteran race car who trains Lightning McQueen in Pixar’s Cars. He lives in Radiator Springs as the town doctor, but his past is revealed as the famous Fabulous Hudson Hornet.
Doc won three Piston Cups in the early 1950s before a crash ended his racing career. Although he was a champion, he felt ignored when newer racers and sponsors moved on. McQueen’s arrogance reminds Doc of the racing world that disappointed him.
Paul Newman voices Doc Hudson, making the character especially notable because Newman was himself a celebrated racing enthusiast and competitor. Doc eventually joins McQueen’s pit crew and supports his return to competition. The character is based on the real Hudson Hornet, a car celebrated for stock-car racing success.
