In Pixar's Cars 3, Cruz Ramirez becomes Lightning McQueen's new trainer and later his racing teammate.
Cruz is introduced as a highly capable trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center. She uses data, simulators, and modern training methods, while Lightning initially resists her approach because he wants to recover the form that made him a champion.
The film's central conflict concerns the arrival of faster next-generation racers, especially Jackson Storm. Lightning eventually realizes that his experience can help Cruz pursue her own racing ambition. He gives her the opportunity to race in his place during the Florida 500.
Cruz's yellow design and energetic personality contrast with Lightning's red veteran image. Her victory over Jackson Storm marks a generational handoff, while Lightning adopts a new role as a mentor. Cruz is voiced by Cristela Alonzo.
