The worldwide racing event in Pixar’s Cars 2 is the World Grand Prix.

Organized by Miles Axlerod, the event is designed to promote Allinol, a new alternative fuel. Lightning McQueen enters the competition, while Mater becomes involved in an international espionage story after being mistaken for an American secret agent.

The World Grand Prix consists of races in Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London. These locations give Cars 2 a much broader setting than the first film, which focused mainly on Radiator Springs and its surrounding roads.

The event is not the same as the Piston Cup. The Piston Cup is the American stock-car championship associated with McQueen’s original racing career. Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell use the World Grand Prix as the setting for their investigation.
