In On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Tracy drives a Mercury Cougar.
The car is driven by Tracy di Vicenzo, played by Diana Rigg, and becomes one of the film’s most recognizable vehicles. Its appearances include the sequence in which Bond and Tracy encounter one another on a beach and the later chase through the snow-covered Swiss mountains.
The Cougar was Mercury’s performance-oriented pony car, introduced for the 1967 model year as a corporate relative of the Ford Mustang. The film uses a first-generation example, whose long hood and hidden headlamps give it a distinctive appearance.
This car is sometimes confused with the Mustangs and Camaros that frequently appear in American car-chase films of the same era. Unlike Bond’s Aston Martin DBS, the Mercury Cougar is associated primarily with Tracy. The film was released in 1969 and remains the only official Eon Bond film in which Tracy is Bond’s wife.
