The prince of Pejite in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is Asbel. He is the twin brother of Princess Lastelle and becomes an important ally to Nausicaä.
Asbel first appears as a Pejite pilot who attacks the Tolmekian airships carrying Nausicaä, Kushana, and hostages from the Valley. His aircraft is shot down, and Nausicaä rescues him before both fall through quicksand into a clean underground layer beneath the Toxic Jungle.
Their journey reveals that the jungle is not creating pollution: its plants are filtering contaminated soil and producing clean water and earth. When Asbel and Nausicaä reach Pejite, they find the city devastated and learn that Pejite survivors have deliberately used insects against the Tolmekians.
Asbel helps Nausicaä escape captivity and later supports her efforts to stop the wounded baby Ohm from being used as bait. A frequent mix-up is confusing Asbel with Lord Yupa, a warrior from the Valley, or Kushana, the Tolmekian princess. Asbel’s title is sometimes localized as “Prince Milo” in an older English dub.
