In Namco’s 1980 arcade game Rally-X, the player collects flags while driving.
The player controls a blue race car through a maze and must collect every flag before time runs out. Red enemy cars pursue the player, while a smoke screen can temporarily block or slow them. The flag locations make route planning important because the car must navigate hazards rather than simply follow a racing track.
Rally-X was developed by Namco and is often described as a maze chase with a driving theme. It was released alongside New Rally-X, which added changes including different layouts and gameplay balance. A common mistake is to describe the goal as winning a conventional race; the central objective is collecting the flags in the maze.
