In My Neighbor Totoro, the younger sister is Mei. She is approximately four years old and is the energetic younger child of Tatsuo Kusakabe and Yasuko Kusakabe.
After moving with her family to a rural house near her mother’s hospital, Mei explores the surrounding woods and follows two small forest spirits to a giant camphor tree. There she encounters the large spirit she calls “Totoro,” interpreting his roar as the name of the troll in her picture book.
Mei’s curiosity drives the film’s most urgent episode. After arguing with her older sister Satsuki, she tries to travel alone to the hospital with corn for her mother and becomes lost. Satsuki asks Totoro for help, and the magical Catbus eventually carries her to Mei.
A frequent mix-up is choosing Satsuki, but Satsuki is the older sister, about ten years old. Kanta is a local boy, while Totoro is the forest spirit who becomes Mei and Satsuki’s extraordinary companion.
