In Minions, Scarlet Overkill targets Buckingham Palace after arriving in London.
Scarlet Overkill travels to Britain with Kevin, Stuart, and Bob because she wants the British royal crown. Her plan takes the Minions into Buckingham Palace, the London residence most strongly associated with the British monarch. The palace sequence is one of the film’s major comic set pieces.
The film is set largely in 1968, when the Minions meet Scarlet at a villain convention in Orlando before following her to England. The story uses real British locations and royal imagery, but its theft plot is fictional. The crown Scarlet seeks is also part of the movie’s fantasy adventure rather than a depiction of a real historical crime.
Buckingham Palace is often confused with Windsor Castle, another famous royal residence. Windsor is outside central London, while Buckingham Palace is the location used in the film’s London heist.
