In MGM Studios, the MGM stands for?

In MGM Studios, MGM stands for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the Hollywood company formed from the names of three earlier film businesses.

Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures, and Louis B. Mayer Pictures came together in 1924 under the control of theater magnate Marcus Loew. The merged studio became famous for lavish productions, major stars, and its roaring Leo the Lion logo. The hyphenated form “Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer” is the standard expansion of MGM.

The studio’s motto, Ars Gratia Artis, means “Art for art’s sake.” MGM became especially influential during Hollywood’s studio era, producing films such as The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, and Singin’ in the Rain, although ownership and distribution arrangements changed repeatedly over time.

Today, MGM’s film and television library operates under Amazon MGM Studios. MGM Resorts International is a separate company and should not be confused with the movie studio or its entertainment brand.
