In Metal Gear Solid, the female sniper who battles Solid Snake twice is codenamed Sniper Wolf.
Sniper Wolf is a member of FOXHOUND and serves as one of the game's major bosses. She is introduced during the Shadow Moses Island mission, where she attacks Meryl Silverburgh and forces Snake into a confrontation. Her exceptional marksmanship and ability to remain motionless for long periods are central to her characterization.
Snake first defeats Sniper Wolf in a snowy field using a PSG1 sniper rifle or equivalent weapon. Later, after progressing through the underground passage, he faces her again and wins a second sniper duel. The two encounters are separated by story events, making her one of the few Metal Gear Solid bosses fought more than once.
Sniper Wolf is voiced in the English version by Tasia Valenza. Her character is distinct from the other FOXHOUND members: Psycho Mantis specializes in psychic attacks, Vulcan Raven commands a tank, and Decoy Octopus uses disguises.
