In Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Snake infiltrates the detention camp called Camp Omega.
Camp Omega is a black-site prison operated at the U.S. naval base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. The Ground Zeroes mission sends Big Boss, also called Snake, into the camp to rescue two prisoners: Chico and Paz. This rescue operation forms the playable prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
The setting is intentionally compact compared with The Phantom Pain’s later open-world regions. Camp Omega is designed as a self-contained infiltration area with multiple routes, guard patterns, vehicles, and optional approaches. Players can scout the camp, extract prisoners, and complete additional missions that reuse the same location.
Camp Omega should not be confused with Mother Base, the offshore headquarters that serves as Snake’s organization’s base. Ground Zeroes also uses the title’s “Ground Zeroes” name for the prologue, but the prison facility itself is Camp Omega.
