In Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the legendary Soviet sniper is known as The End.
The End is one of the Cobra Unit, a group of elite soldiers commanded by The Boss. He is an exceptionally old marksman who fights Naked Snake in a large, open-area encounter requiring patience, observation, and careful use of camouflage. His battlefield presence contrasts with faster, more direct boss fights elsewhere in the game.
The End is sometimes confused with The Fear, another Cobra Unit member whose abilities center on acrobatics, poison darts, and unusual movement. The Cobra Unit names refer to emotional or psychological states, but each member has a distinct specialty. The End's name also reflects the character's age and his symbolic connection with death and the closing stages of life.
