Sons of Liberty is the terrorist group led by Solidus Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
The group seizes the Big Shell, an offshore environmental cleanup facility near New York City, and demands a ransom from the United States. Solidus Snake presents himself as a revolutionary opposed to the Patriots’ control over information and politics.
The group’s name deliberately echoes the American revolutionary tradition and connects to the game’s themes of inherited will, censorship, and political control. Its members include several notable figures, such as Vamp, Fortune, and Fatman.
Sons of Liberty is often confused with Dead Cell, the special-operations unit whose surviving members form part of the terrorist force. FOXHOUND is a separate military organization from earlier and later games.
