Jim Schindler created McDonald's 1962 restaurant logo by combining the two arches.
The logo was based on the architectural arches that had marked McDonald's restaurants since the early 1950s. Schindler joined the separate forms into a stylized M, making the visual identity work as a compact sign and printed emblem rather than only as part of a building facade.
The design helped establish a consistent identity during the period when McDonald's was expanding rapidly through franchising. It is useful to separate the roles involved: Stanley Clark Meston designed the original restaurant architecture, Jim Schindler developed the 1962 graphic logo, and Ray Kroc drove the company's business expansion. Those contributions are related but not interchangeable.
