In Mario Kart World, what new Grand Prix feature requires racers to drive from one course to the next?

The story behind the answer

Mario Kart World’s new Grand Prix feature requires racers to drive between courses.

Unlike earlier Mario Kart games, where a Grand Prix is made up of four separate races selected from menus, World connects its courses across a larger shared environment. After finishing one race, competitors travel along the roads and routes leading to the next course.

This design fits the game’s open-world direction, which also includes Free Roam, off-road driving, boat sections, rail grinding, and wall riding. The connected journeys make the Grand Prix feel more like one continuous road trip rather than four isolated events.

The change does not mean every race in the game works this way. Outside Grand Prix, Mario Kart World still allows traditional three-lap races on individual tracks. The distinction between connected Grand Prix routes and standalone races is therefore important when describing the game’s structure.
