In Madden NFL 27, a player must be Hot to activate an X-Factor ability.
The game’s Hot and Cold system connects player momentum with special abilities. Successful plays such as touchdowns, interceptions, sacks, and important catches can move a player toward Hot.
When a player is Hot, performance improves and the player can maintain access to the relevant X-Factor ability. A player who becomes Cold can suffer a performance dip, and certain X-Factor abilities temporarily shut off until momentum is rebuilt.
Madden NFL 27 tunes the system differently from college football gameplay. NFL players are presented as more experienced and emotionally steady, so their swings are less extreme than those of younger college athletes. The status is therefore both a presentation cue and a gameplay mechanic.
