In League of Legends, the region between the lanes inhabited by neutral monsters is the jungle.
On Summoner’s Rift, three lanes—top, middle, and bottom—carry minion waves toward the enemy base. The spaces between those lanes form the jungle, where neutral monsters spawn for either team to fight. A player assigned to this area is commonly called the jungler.
Jungle monsters provide gold and experience when defeated, but they also shape team strategy. Camps respawn on timers, allowing junglers to plan routes, invade the opponent’s side, or return to cleared camps. The jungle also connects to the river, where major objectives such as dragons, the Rift Herald, and Baron Nashor appear.
A common mix-up is treating the river as the jungle. The river separates the two jungle halves and contains powerful objectives, while “jungle” refers to the broader regions between the lanes. ARAM is different: its single-lane map does not have a conventional jungle area.
