In Jurassic Park, what is the name of the park's creator?

The story behind the answer

In Jurassic Park, the park’s creator is John Hammond.

Hammond is the founder of InGen, the biotechnology company that uses genetic engineering to recreate dinosaurs. He establishes Jurassic Park on Isla Nublar, an island near Costa Rica, intending to turn scientific breakthroughs into a spectacular wildlife attraction. The character first appeared in Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel, before Richard Attenborough portrayed him in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film.

A common mix-up is confusing Hammond with the scientists and staff who make the park possible. Dr. Henry Wu leads much of the genetic work, while Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler are visiting paleontologists. Dennis Nedry is InGen’s disgruntled programmer, and Ian Malcolm is the mathematician who warns that the park’s complex system is unstable.

The novel and film present Hammond differently. Crichton’s Hammond is colder and more profit-driven, while the film portrays him as a charming, grandfatherly visionary whose confidence in controlling nature proves dangerously misplaced.
