In J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, which member of the Fellowship dies at Amon Hen?

The story behind the answer

Boromir is the member of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Fellowship of the Ring who dies at Amon Hen.

Boromir is the eldest son of Denethor II, the Steward of Gondor, and joins the Fellowship after attending the Council of Elrond. He is a powerful warrior and a proud defender of Gondor, but the One Ring’s influence exposes his desire to use its power against Sauron.

At Amon Hen, Boromir tries to take the Ring from Frodo. He later repents and defends Merry and Pippin from an attacking band of Uruk-hai. Boromir is mortally wounded by several arrows fired by the Uruk-hai leader Lurtz in the film adaptation; Tolkien’s book does not name the archer.

His death marks the breaking of the Fellowship. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli find him at the end of the battle, while Merry and Pippin are carried away.
