In J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Samwise Gamgee uses Elven rope given to the Fellowship in Lothlórien.
The rope is supplied by the Elves of Lothlórien before the Fellowship leaves that land. Sam later uses it while the travelers are near the Emyn Muil, where he improvises a descent for himself and Frodo. The rope’s lightness and strength surprise him, and it eventually comes loose when Sam calls for it to return.
The rope is sometimes confused with a named magical artifact, but Tolkien generally presents it simply as Elven rope rather than giving it a unique proper name. Sam’s interest in it also reflects his practical Hobbit nature: he notices its usefulness, carries it when others might overlook it, and later regrets leaving it behind during the journey.
