In J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, the Elvish name for Rivendell is Imladris.
Rivendell is the English rendering of the Sindarin name Imladris, which refers to the valley where Elrond’s refuge is located. The settlement lies east of the Misty Mountains and serves as an important sanctuary for Elves, travellers, and members of the Dúnedain.
Bilbo spends his later years there, and Frodo recovers there after being wounded by the Witch-king. The Council of Elrond also meets at Rivendell and decides that the One Ring must be destroyed in Mount Doom. A common mix-up is to treat Imladris as a separate place from Rivendell; they are two names for the same location, with “Rivendell” being the translated English name.
