The land where the Valar live in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology is Valinor.
Valinor is a region of Aman, the continent west of Middle-earth. It is the dwelling place of the Valar, powerful beings who help shape and govern the world of Arda. The city of Valimar and the mountain of Taniquetil are among its important locations.
The Two Trees of Valinor, Telperion and Laurelin, once illuminated the land before the creation of the Sun and Moon. Their light also survives in the Silmarils, the jewels at the center of Tolkien’s story The Silmarillion.
Valinor is not simply another name for Middle-earth. Middle-earth is the central continent where most of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings take place. Beleriand was a separate western region in the First Age, while Númenor was an island kingdom later destroyed by the sea.
