Telperion and Laurelin
Answer
Telperion and Laurelin
The two trees of Valinor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology are Telperion and Laurelin.
Telperion was the silver tree, while Laurelin was the golden tree. They grew in Valinor, the realm of the Valar, and together provided light before the creation of the Sun and Moon. Their lights were distinct but complemented one another, creating the major cycles that measured time in the Blessed Realm.
The trees were destroyed by the monstrous spider Ungoliant with the help of Melkor, later called Morgoth. Their last surviving light was preserved in the Silmarils, jewels made by Fëanor. The destruction of the trees is therefore directly connected to the central conflict of The Silmarillion and to the later history of the Elves. The names are sometimes confused with other important trees, such as Nimloth of Númenor and the mallorn trees of Lothlórien.
