In J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium, what is the name of the fortress where Morgoth is defeated at the end of the First Age?

The story behind the answer

Angband is the fortress where Morgoth is defeated at the end of the First Age in J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium. Located in the north of Middle-earth, Angband becomes Morgoth's principal stronghold after the destruction of his earlier fortress, Utumno.

Morgoth, originally named Melkor, rules from Angband during the wars of Beleriand. The fortress lies beneath the peaks of Thangorodrim, which Tolkien describes as volcanic mountains raised above it. From there Morgoth commands Orcs, dragons, Balrogs, and other servants against the Elves and their allies.

The War of Wrath finally destroys Morgoth's power and brings about the ruin of much of Beleriand. Angband is not the same place as Barad-dûr, Sauron's later fortress in Mordor. Utumno is also distinct: it was Morgoth's first great stronghold, established before the events of the First Age.
