In J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium, the first Elf is named Imin.
Imin appears in the account of the awakening of the Elves at Cuiviénen, a body of water in Middle-earth. According to the story, Imin awoke first, followed by his companion Iminyë. He then encountered other newly awakened Elves, and the original groups grew as more Elves arose.
This material comes from Tolkien’s later writings about the early history of the Elves rather than from the main narrative of The Lord of the Rings. Because Tolkien revised his mythology repeatedly, details about the earliest Elves can differ across drafts and posthumously published texts.
Imin should not be confused with Ingwë, Finwë, or Elwë, who are important Elven leaders associated with later migrations and kingdoms. Imin is specifically connected with the first awakening, making the name a relatively obscure but precise legendarium fact.
